When you want to display captions from a speech-to-text app for a crowd, a projector is quite useful. There are some small and fairly bright projectors available online. They interface either wirelessly or wired to a mobile device. Projectors for group captions are very helpful for people with hearing loss. For instance, in settings where it’s difficult to hear, captions fill in the gaps. There are some fast and accurate speech-to-text apps available for free.

Sometimes a group of people want to see captions. This is where projectors for group captions is useful.  Some mobile devices connect wirelessly to some projectors. However, others require an HDMI adapter and cable. In this way you physically connect the mobile device to the projector. Certain mobile phone brands are more compatible with their own adapters or displays. For instance, iPhones work well with AirPlay and  Androids prefer Chromecast. However, a wireless projector or an HDMI cable will also work with these phone in some cases.

To project from a phone wirelessly to a projector:

  • on your phone, swipe up or down for the control panel or go into “display settings”
  • look for  “screen casting” or “screen mirroring”
  • click on your projector

Otherwise:

If a wireless approach doesn’t work out, often an HDMI or VGA connection will suffice, depending on the connector options available on your projector.

Be sure the adapter also has a power port so you can plug in your mobile device while projecting.
