About Gathering Sound

Gathering Sound strives to break down the barriers that lead to social isolation for people with hearing loss. My motivation comes from my own triumphs over hearing loss.

I was able to get my father a remote microphone system that has greatly improved his life. Once we looked into it we found out that the VA will provide the device for free. And also a device that links to the television which means watching the news is possible again….You never know how you will affect the world once you decide to put yourself out there.” – Amy G.

Hi, I'm Andrea.

Throughout my journey with lifelong genetic progressive hearing loss, I’ve grappled with countless challenges. Yet, it has led me to uncover a trove of invaluable technologies beyond just hearing aids – innovations that often remain under the radar. My insights are cultivated from three decades of research and engaging with hundreds of individuals with their own unique hearing loss who have so many strategies to share.

With an educational background in electrical engineering and an MBA, coupled with a relentless problem-solving spirit, I view hearing loss from both a technical and holistic lens. Additionally, my intensive training through the Network of Consumer Hearing Assistive Technology Trainers (N-CHATT) program further enhances my perspective.

While a hearing healthcare provider may be the captain of your team, they are not the whole team. Often they do not have the time or technical background to tailor tools and solutions to fit your unique needs, nor can they always provide the practical advice needed.

Although I am not an audiologist or medical provider, I bring a rich tapestry of lived experience and technical curiosity. My mission is to bridge the gaps in understanding and provide you with the holistic solutions you seek.

Keep Striving

Embracing joy amidst hearing loss is a formidable challenge at times that demands perseverance. However, with the right tools and strategies, it is possible to engage more fruitfully. My hope is that you remain steadfast in your quest for connection, celebrating every personal victory over hearing loss.

*N-CHATT was a five-year “train-the-trainer” grant program. The Deaf/Hard of Hearing Technology Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center directed the program. They partnered with the Hearing Loss Association of America, Gallaudet University and the American Institute for Research.
